What massage can do for common pain

Most people come in with something that hurts. Start with what you are dealing with: each page explains why it happens and what a session can realistically change.

All conditions

Massage for desk-work posture

Hours at a screen pull the head forward, round the shoulders and keep the hips bent. Massage can ease the muscles that tighten in that position.

Massage for limited range of motion

A shoulder that will not reach, a hip or ankle that stops short. Often the muscles and tissue around the joint have tightened. Massage can ease that part.

Massage for lower back pain

Most lower back pain comes from muscles and joints that are overloaded or have stopped moving well, not from serious damage. Massage can ease that part.

Massage for neck and shoulder pain

A stiff, aching neck and shoulders usually come from muscles that hold the head and arms up all day and never get a break. Massage can ease that load.

Massage for sciatica

Pain down the leg usually starts at a nerve root in the lower back; sometimes tight hip muscles add to it or mimic it. Massage can ease the muscle part.

Massage for sports injury recovery

After a strain or sprain settles, the muscles around it often stay guarded, stiff and weak. Massage can ease that part and help you move normally again.

Massage for tension headaches

Tension headaches often start in tight muscles at the base of the skull, across the shoulders and in the jaw. Massage can ease those muscles.
